FROM 2020
OMRA IS NOW PART OF THE UIM
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
UIM/BPBA Racing
OMRA have been approved to be the organisers of UIM sanctioned races throughout the UK, under the guidance from the BPBA (British Power Boating Association) in the Radio Controlled catagory. Current calendar dates and locations remain the same but a select few will become UIM/BPBA races. At these races, results and records count towards a national and international ranking. Winning a race will mean more than just OMRA championship points. There will be 3 races throughout 2020 where you can obtain championship points from the UIM.
International Rules
UIM have issued OMRA some rules to apply to UIM races. They are very similar to existing OMRA rules. Digital timing will be required at chase boat events also. OMRA classes will remain the same but international points will be awarded accordingly by the BPBA. A full copy of these rules will be available soon.
World Records
With UIM, chase boat results and fastest average speeds will now be internationally published. OMRA are also looking for the 2020 chase boat event to become an official Guinness World Record entry for a 10km Offshore Sprint. This is the first time in the 50 year history of OMRA an official average speed distance record will be recognised globally and creates the challenge of becoming a record holder and the extra drive for others to attempt to break it. There will classes for Petrol, Electric and Glow Engines.
Membership and Wild Cards
At UIM races, standard OMRA membership applies with entries but also UIM allow OMRA to issue wild cards to non-members (via temporary membership) in order for them compete for UIM rankings. OMRA members obtain standard championship points and all racers can gain UIM points.
